The Tragic Death of a Fund Raiser

August 31, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

To the Editor:

I read with sadness the item in the People section of the August 17 issue announcing the death of Pamela Waechter, director of annual giving for the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.

For the record, it is important to note that she was, in fact, brutally murdered by a gunman who forced his way into the federation’s downtown Seattle office, having targeted a Jewish organization to act out his reported anger over the conflict in the Middle East.

Several other federation officials were seriously wounded in the attack.

This and similar unjustifiable acts of violence perpetrated against any individual or group are surely condemned by all of us in the nonprofit community.

I know The Chronicle would want its readers to be fully aware of the tragic circumstances surrounding this horrible incident.
