World Vision Board Member Quits over Gay-Marriage Switch

April 4, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

A Google executive has resigned from the board of World Vision to protest the Christian aid charity’s quick reversal last week of its decision authorizing the hiring of people in same-sex marriages, the Associated Press reports.

Jacqueline Fuller, the tech giant’s director of giving, said in a statement that she remained a “huge fan” of World Vision’s global anti-poverty work but “disagreed with the decision to exclude gay employees who marry.” She had served on the board for two years. A spokesman for the charity said no other members have departed over the issue.

The Federal Way, Wash.-based relief group announced on March 24 that it would allow its U.S. offices to hire Christians who are in same-sex marriages but. The move triggered a backlash from evangelical leaders and supporters of the charity, which backtracked two days.
