Title: “2018 Nonprofit Talent Management Priorities Survey”

Organization: Nonprofit HR

Summary: Nonprofit leaders and human-resource executives who work at nonprofits are placing a high priority on diversity at their organizations this year. In the second annual survey by Nonprofit HR, a consulting company in Washington, 31 percent of those executives cited “attracting and hiring diverse talent” as their top priority in hiring. Nearly as many — 30 percent — said “building a diverse and inclusive work force” — which includes retaining staff — was their most important priority.

The survey included more than 350 nonprofit executives and human-resource officials at organizations of different sizes and missions. It discovered that about half of the organizations surveyed have either a human-resource department or an employee dedicated to working on personnel matters. Among the other findings:

  • 38 percent of survey participants said they were keen to create a strategy to help their organizations’ employees learn and develop professionally.
  • 34 percent said improving their organization’s culture was their top priority when it came to engaging workers.
  • 29 percent said their top priority when it came to recognizing employees’ performance was to explore what other organizations do to reward high-quality staff members.
