How Grant Makers Can Help Charities Beyond Giving Money

May 25, 2016 | Read Time: 1 minute

Grant makers can help in more ways than simply writing a check. That’s the point a handful of foundation and charity leaders emphasize in the latest installment of a series of videos produced by Exponent Philanthropy.

For example, they can write a letter in support of a grantee, sit on a committee, attend events, or provide an expert opinion or a different perspective on an issue.

“Our grants, as a small foundation, are quite small,” says Sharmila Rao Thakkar, executive director of the Siragusa Foundation, “so we believe it is critical to see that relationship beyond the one-time grant that they get per year.”

In the video below, you can hear more about what Ms. Thakkar’s foundation and others do to build on grantee relationships.

This is the fifth installment in a monthly video series in partnership with Exponent Philanthropy, previously known as the Association of Small Foundations. You can also see this video on the Philanthropy Lessons website.
