NEW BOOKS

The Law of Tax-Exempt Organizations, Ninth Edition, by Bruce R. Hopkins, aims to serve as an understandable, useful resource for charity officials and lawyers alike. The book is a comprehensive guide to the rationale behind and implications of laws that govern nonprofit groups of all kinds, as well as to the differences among tax-exempt organizations. It is divided into seven sections: an introduction to the law of tax-exempt groups, fundamentals of those laws, tax-exempt charities, other tax-exempt groups, key laws that govern nonprofit groups, getting and keeping tax-exempt status, and organizational structures and forms. Seven appendices provide more background and details on the Internal Revenue Code sections, categories of tax-exempt groups, and various official forms filed by such groups.
