Legacy & Innovation: A Guidebook for Families on Social Change Philanthropy, by Stephanie Yang and Changemakers, looks at how family foundations can pursue social-justice work. In particular, the book focuses on ways for grant makers to provide “people in need with the means to solve their own problems, including avenues for changing unfair social structures and building vibrant communities.” The book includes case studies of family funds that focus on social-change philanthropy, interviews with trustees and other leaders of the foundations, tips on giving away all of a foundation’s money and working with other organizations, and resources for further reading and research on social-change grant making.
