NEW BOOKS

Fund Raising Realities Every Board Member Must Face: A 1-Hour Crash Course on Raising Major Gifts for Nonprofit Organizations, by David Lansdowne, consists of 47 two-page chapters. Designed to teach trustees the essentials of raising money for charity — without overwhelming them with information — the book offers advice on cultivating relationships with potential donors, understanding the organization’s mission and goals, the role of consultants, evaluating completed fund-raising campaigns, and other topics. Many chapters provide a short list of questions to encourage reflection, or a checklist to help board members identify donors and prepare themselves to ask people for gifts.
