NEW BOOKS

Make Every Dollar Count: Basic Borrowing for Nonprofit Organizations, by Clare Golla, provides information on lending for charities. Using several case studies and examples, the publication discusses “why your organization might consider seeking a loan, how to approach lenders to secure financing, and how to manage the loan once it’s on your books.” The booklet, produced by ShoreBank with help from the Illinois Facilities Fund, argues that borrowing money, if an organization is well prepared, can provide flexible support and balance cash flow. Different sources of loans are described, and an overview of the application process is provided, including what documents to present to the lender and what to know about fees. A glossary of key terms is included.
