A Guide to Achieving New Heights: The Four Pillars of Successful Nonprofit Leadership, by Dennis C. Miller, seeks to help nonprofit board members and officials strengthen their organizations. Mr. Miller, a charity consultant, focuses on four areas, or “pillars”: creating relationships with other nonprofit groups, community leaders, businesses, and clients; feeling and expressing passion for a group’s mission; planning for the future; and building up financial strength. He includes self-assessment questions, as well as short profiles of successful nonprofit leaders such as Rob Brown, of the Institute for Children With Cancer and Blood Disorders, and Joe Coyle, of Southern Ocean County Hospital.
