A roundup of notable gifts compiled by the Chronicle:

Valley Hospital Foundation

An anonymous donor gave $20 million to build a new hospital in Paramus, N.J. The hospital foundation also received $15 million for the new building from David Bolger through his Bolger Foundation.

Bolger founded Bolger & Company, a real-estate investment firm. He gave $30 million to Valley Hospital in 2008 for its Ridgewood, N.J., campus. He ranked No. 50 on the Chronicle’s Philanthropy 50 list of the biggest donors that year.

Partners in Health

Herbert and Charlotte Wagner donated $15 million through their Wagner Foundation to create a program aimed at improving the health of impoverished people, especially women and children, in 10 countries. Among other uses, the money will back efforts to end maternal deaths in childbirth and support the charity’s use of high-tech health-care data collection and analysis.

Herbert Wagner founded the Boston hedge fund Finepoint Capital. Charlotte Wagner runs the couple’s foundation and previously worked in marketing for Fidelity Investments and Goldman Sachs.

Stanford University School of Medicine

Len and Emily Blavatnik pledged $10 million through their Blavatnik Family Foundation to support fellowships for graduate students in the biomedical sciences.

Len Blavatnik founded Access Industries, which has holdings in chemicals and natural resources, media and telecommunications, and real estate. He has given extensively and appeared on the 2010 Philanthropy 50.

American Heart Association

David Spina and his wife, Stevie, gave $5 million to support the American Heart Association Social Impact Fund. The new fund will begin in Boston and Southeast Michigan, including Flint, and will focus on helping communities there expand their economies and improve access to healthy food and better educational opportunities.

David Spina is a retired chief executive and chairman of State Street Corporation, an investment-services company.

College of Idaho

James Smith and his wife, Mary, donated $1 million to build three arches at different corners of the college’s campus.

James Smith is a cardiologist at St. Luke’s Boise Heart Clinic, in Idaho. He graduated from the college in 1964.

Mary Smith, a trustee, said in a news release that she and her husband were inspired by the beauty of the archways at her alma mater, the University of California at Berkeley, and approached the college with the idea to build similar decorative arches on the college’s campus.

In 2012, the Smiths gave the college $1 million to renovate Boone Science Hall.
