Giving in the Aftermath of the Gulf Coast Hurricanes: Report on the Foundation and Corporate Response, by Loren Renz and Steven Lawrence, with contributions from Jessica Diaz, provides the results of a survey of 906 community, corporate, and independent foundations. Sponsored by the Foundation Center, the report focuses on the institutional philanthropic response to Hurricanes Rita and Katrina in the summer of 2005. Key findings include survey results revealing that 47.7 percent of foundations supported hurricane-related programs, that most of the support went to immediate relief instead of long-term rebuilding, and that the American Red Cross received the most money, $188.4-million. The report includes tables and charts, information on type of recipient, and analysis and quotations from grant makers.
