Ending Violence Against Women in Eastern Congo: Preparing Men to Advocate for Women’s Rights, describes efforts to engage Congolese men in mobilizing and supporting Congolese women. The Democratic Republic of the Congo has been embroiled in conflict for several years, and sexual attacks on women have been a distinguishing feature of the turmoil there. Women for Women International led a program in 2005 to educate male leaders on violence against women and help them support the women in their communities. This publication reports on the program’s structure and results, includes stories of how the program affected its participants, and offers recommendations for similar efforts to involve men in women’s advocacy.
