October 4, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

NEW BOOKS

General Operating Support Action Guide, attempts to persuade grant makers of the importance of providing such support to charities. Describing general operating support as “the ‘working capital’ nonprofits need to sustain their day-to-day operations,” the publication discusses what it is, why foundations should make grants for operating costs, how much charities need, when to provide such support, and how to keep grant recipients accountable. Advice is offered to help grant makers work with recipients of operating support, discuss unrestricted grants with the foundation’s board, determine the award amount, and deal with other issues.
