Fundraising Buffet: A Heaping Helping of Practical Ideas to Increase Donations & Deepen Donor Satisfaction, by Sandy Rees, focuses on simple fund-raising tactics. Ms. Rees, who has worked as a fund raiser for more than 10 years, offers 101 tips related to different aspects of fund raising: donor relations, direct mail, volunteers, special events, and other topics. In a chapter on big gifts, Ms. Rees discusses how to ask for the right amount from a donor: “A major donor is usually capable of giving 10 to 25 times whatever they typically give you in an annual gift.” The author also describes how newsletters can be a tool to attract contributions and maintain donor relationships. Real-world anecdotes are scattered throughout the book with advice based on Ms. Rees’s own experiences.
