Growing Your Organization: A Sustainability Resource Book for NGOs
by Susan Pezzullo, with Angela Venza and Ken Phillips
Ms. Pezzullo, director of Capacity Building Service at the International Youth Foundation, in Baltimore, explores ways of “keeping a good thing going, in this case, the work of non-profit organizations around the world.”
Aiming her advice at small-sized organizations, she covers strategic planning and the creation of a “sustainability culture,” in which every employee contributes to effective communications and fund raising. She applies the methods used in establishing a “corporate identity” to creating a positive image for a non-profit group.
The remaining chapters examine how to win financial and other forms of support from businesses, government agencies, and individuals.
Ms. Pezzullo uses case studies of IYF partner organizations to illustrate her points. For example, she shows how the Polish Children and Youth Foundation survived a bust cycle in that country’s economy by reducing its administrative costs and reaching out to new donors.
